The later 1.2/1.4 TFSI (EA211 — the belt-driven generation shared with the Polo/Ibiza/Fabia) is the A1 petrol to seek out: far more robust than the early chain-driven EA111 1.4 TSI it replaced, with ACT cylinder-deactivation on some 1.4s. Cautions are the modern norm — cam-belt service (keep to schedule), direct-injection intake carbon over time, and occasional water-pump/PCV items. A serviced car is a genuinely good small engine.
